Peony the trendsetter

Remember that friendship post from a month or so ago? Father McCloskey is going to have an article on Christian friendship, with a special focus on men’s friendships, in the May issue of Catholic World Report. If you can’t get CWR on the newsstand, the article will probably be online in June.
UPDATE: This is what I get for multitasking — I meant to include a link to Alicia’s post “What We Have Lost“, in which among other things she touches on how the sexualization of everything is wrecking same-sex friendship.
It seems like everything has been sexualized except sex.

  1. Our priest gave a homily about “spiritual friendship” perhaps a year or more ago. In typical D’s m fashion I have little of use to report about it. He was talking about something that actually sounded accessible to your average person, and not just correspondence centuries ago between two saints in different convents or monasteries.
I’m pretty lonely here, but I’m not sure I even have the capacity to make a friendship without a spiritual component. The less openness there can be about what really matters — even if there is disagreement there — the more uncomfortable I get chit chatting.

  2. did you guys see my post on ‘What have we lost’? I think that we really need to, as a culture, examine friendships and encourage them.

  3. I did see your post, Alicia, and I intended to link to it but I must have been sidetracked or something. I’ve updated the main body of the post. Thanks!
