Elinor Dashwood has a delightful thread going on on Literary Loves: What fictional character or characters have you ever fallen in love with?
Now this is how much of a plunker I am: Elinor first floated this idea in an email to me. Not only have I not come up with any literary loves, I haven’t replied to the email yet. My apologies, Elinor; I’ll try to write back today. I am pleading absence — the Maryland Mosses went away for the weekend, and I am trying to restore order to the household.
As for the literary loves question, I’m thinking about it. I’m probably thinking wayyyyyy too hard about it and I’m too embarrassed to ask something as geeky as “define falling in love, please.” Perhaps part of it is that I’m not prone to crushes in real life (exactly three over the course of my entire life: one in high school; one in college, complete with the requisite heartbreak; one on the gentleman I eventually married.)
I need to go sort laundry.

Geez, don’t let it worry you. I mean a character of whom you think, while reading about him, “Oh, isn’t he wonderful?” That’s all.
Mr. Darcy, and it would be Mr. Darcy even if Colin Firth didn’t play him in the BBC/A&E mini-series. Mr. Knightly is a very close second. 🙂
Heathcliff
Mr.Rodchester
Col.Brandon (sense and sensibility…yes before Alan Rickman was him in the movie)
And well, I really have a thing for the Anti-hero so my current literary love is….Professor Snape. I know, I know, Ick, Ick.
What can I say.
The man is dark, dangerous, cruel. Yet he works for the Order. Hmmmm what makes him tick. And I have found out that I am not alone in my, shall we say fasination, with him.
no, not worried, Elinor, just reading too much into the question, that’s all 🙂
My literary squeeze is Mr. Knightley.
Mr. Darcy’s cousin, Col. Fitzwilliam, always seemed like a nice fellow too.
Julie — an interesting choice indeed with Professor Snape! I’ve only read the first three books and always found Prof. Snape to be a most intriguing fellow. Now I really want to read 4 and 5!
My current would have to be Ron Weasley from the Harry Potter books. This is an interesting topic… I’m going to have to think more about it & post something in my own blog.
Peony, definitely definitely read 4 & 5 soon. I read the fourth book during my last year of college & had to make my friends hide it from me so I would finish my research paper.
The third movie arrives in June… the day before my weddin, no less! (the movie: 6/4/4, my wedding: 6/5/4)
I just saw Elinor’s question the other day and what a great discussion topic! As I mentioned in my blog, Mr. Knightly is my hero since he changed my whole outlook on men, haha. If I had to pick secondary men it would be Col. Fitzwilliam of P&P, Col.Brandon of S&S, or Roger Hamley of Wives and Daughters. (Yes, I was upset with him when he fell for Cynthia at first but he came to his senses in the end — although I probably wouldn’t have listed him if I hadn’t seen him come to life in the A&E movie.)
