This line could use work, though:
“The Catholic Church still officially opposes all contraception except the rhythm method.”
The article mentioned surrogacy — I was recently looking at an online pregnancy forum that I rarely participate in, and read that a woman who’d had her first 2 years ago shortly after I had Davey was 38 weeks with her second. Only, she’s a surrogate, planning to give this baby away. I was so repulsed by this on a visceral level before even getting to the “Catholic” objections to such an arrangement, but no one comments on it except to congratulate her on doing such a good deed.
(Then I looked at her website where she spoke of the fact that she’s “polyamorous” and she and her husband are both looking for a third partner. I feel so bad for the innocent little boy Davey’s age growing up in this environment.)
Although the copyright on the article was 2004, I think it was originally written in 1989 or so (it speaks of upcoming 1991 legislation). But it is still a pretty astounding article, I think. The whole website where that came from is pretty good.
