Today I got the most astonishing mail — an flyer from this fine outreach of the Archdiocese of Washington, inviting me to “call and discuss my needs.”
Oh brother! And why today?

Please forgive me for snickering. I hope I didn’t miss news that has you worried about your health or longevity. Maybe it’s the early and frequent experience with death in the family that has me numb to anything but the tacky ridiculousness of a lot of funeral-related marketing… Although I guess with cemeteries there’s not as much choice, since you do need one of the few spaces “set apart.”
I’ve pretty much discussed my future needs with my husband already: I’m in the “put me in a pine box, or maybe the cheapest model from one of those monasteries, and talk a whole lot about Purgatory and the final judgment at my Mass of Christian Burial” camp.
I used to get phone calls from this one cemetary when I lived in NJ that I won a free plot. I actually would have been just fine to accpet it since cemetary plots are quite expensive. but I never qualified becauase I was like 22 at the time and I had to be at least 30 to accept. Sigh, I am at least 30 now.
