  1. Not that I’m a fan of the book or first movie (because I’m NOT … no reason, just didn’t care) … but I think that part of the correct read on Willy Wonka’s character should make kids nervous … so maybe that’s right somehow in this movie.

  2. Well, I dont know if I’d take Boudreaux and Thibadeaux to see it, based solely on the fact Burton really wanted Marilyn Manson to play Willie Wonka, but couldnt work out scheduling differences..That right there is enough to turn me off to this project. Why not get Rob Zombie involved in it too while your at it?

  3. Of course, the idea of this movie makes *my* kids thrilled. They’re mad about Johnny Depp and adore Tim Burton and his weird stuff. I have already been shanghaied into agreeing that the two oldest can go see it when it opens, and I foresee several purchases of related merchandise. Probably at Hot Topic, that’s where I’d guess they’d have the t-shirts (they have a huge section of Nightmare Before Christmas stuff.) Roald Dahl’s stuff is all rather bizzarre, but then that’s exactly what my Tribe likes about it. “The Witches” is one of their favorites.

  4. i must say, mel stuart’s version of charlie and the choco factory is beloved in this house and probably always will be; our children can quote verbatim whole scenes from the movie before they can spell their own names.
i’ve always fancied depp as an actor, and i’m not a huge burton fan, but i have absolutely no doubt burton’s take on the original novel will be a MUCH purer interpretation than mel stuart’s. all that said, i cannot WAIT to see this film . . . sans children.

  5. A couple of my kids are scared and creeped out by the first movie version, so if this one is supposed to be creepier, then I may have to see it first before taking the kids (my kids are on the younger side, though). And what’s this about Marilyn Manson? Ugh!
