Peony: Just to make it clear, we’re not getting a dog. But if we did get a dog, and we’re not, it’s going to be one of these dogs. (Shows husband the new Lands’ End catalog with the Boston Terrier on the front.)
Posco: You want a dog with antlers?
Peony: I don’t want a dog, and this one is just wearing a costume. But if I did want a dog, I would want one of these little black and white ones. Without the antlers. And I could name her Bellatrix!
Posco: Great! I know what you’re getting for Christmas.
Peony: No! I don’t want a dog. I just wanted to show you which one I would want if I did.
Posco: Bellatrix. But what if it’s a boy dog?
Peony: It would be a girl dog. So I could name her Bellatrix.
Posco: And what kind of dog is that?
Peony: A Boston Terrier.
Posco: Well, if she’s a Boston Terrier, you’d have to name her Bellertrix, wouldn’t you?

This is timely! The kids and I went to the mall last week and as usual, they “bullied” me into visiting the puppies in the dog shop there. While there, knowing full well that I’m horribly allergic to dogs, I allowed myself to establish eye contact with the cutest little Boston Terrier ever. And then I felt it, it was this little tugging at my heart strings and I insisted that I get to hold and pet her. Then I went ahead and named her. What can I say? She looked like a “Maggie.” Well, after hanging out with Maggie for a while, and becoming increasingly attached, I asked the saleslady what she cost. She was $1,500!!! And then, much to the shock of my dh, I asked if they had a payment plan. :^0 Dh, in shock, then escorted me out as I began to sneeze.
Normally I wouldn’t even consider purchasing a dog from one of these places, opting for a visit to a shelter instead. But there was this cosmic connection, and well…lol
And here we are, days later, missing our Maggie. Boston Terriers are just the sweetest dogs. Sigh.
How much is that doggie in the window? 🙂
If we ever get a Boston Terrier, which we’re not, I might think about giving these folks a call.
You have a good point about allergies. Husband and Hambet both have allergies, and I wonder if a dog might be a bad idea for that reason as well.
