Ooh AI Last Night!

It was soooo good. I got teary eyes a few times, first when they brought in Al Jerreau, and then seeing Mandisa and Paris and Ace and Chris and Kevin, and then with Mary J. Blige and Elliott and Toni Braxton and Taylor and it was so good. And then the Burt Bacharach homage with Dionna Warwick! And then Prince! Prince after Ryan Seacrest said no more guest stars-that was so tricky Ryan!! But Prince! And then Taylor won! I didn’t even bother to watch Ghost Hunters!

  1. Totally missed Ghost Hunters here as well. I’m sure Jason and Grant will understand.
Wowzers! What a great show!!!! It just kept getting better. They even brought back the cowboys! lol And I loved that bit with Clay, and then of course, Prince and then Taylor winning! I’m still on a high. 🙂

  2. Prince? As in Purple Rain?
Well, that would be one point on which we wouldn’t see eye to eye. Can’t stand his music. 🙂

  3. Oh please do not tell me you all liked Taylor. TAYLOR? THE WEDDING SINGER??? God, he is like Michael McDonald.. gag. And now I run for cover…

  4. No you didn’t just say that about MY TAYLOR, Dinka. The nerve! 😉
I am a big Taylor fan, yes. He reminds me of Van Morrison (after listening to his original stuff @ graycharles.com). I think it’s about time a prolific songwriter (one who actually knows his way around actual instruments lol) gets recognized on the show. Oh, and his enthusiasm is infectious. Nuff said. lol
    Soul Patrol!!!! 😛

  5. dear lord, ladies… i am shaking my head in utter disappointment! where has the cool gone?
wedding singer. is all i’m sayin.
    😉

  6. The Doobie Brothers were quite cool in the 70’s! You’re just too young to remember :P.
OK, in all honesty, Taylor was not my first choice. I loved, loved, loved Chris. He reminded me how much I miss rock music. But he got voted off. Before that, I loved Mandisa, but she got voted off. Then I liked Paris, but she got voted off. I also liked Elliott. But when it came down to Katharine and Taylor, I like Taylor better. Katharine reminded me too much of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie UNderwood. I wanted to see something different.

  7. I must be the lone uncool person then. lol Not surprising. I wear my geekiness like a badge of honor. Taylor has been my favorite since his first audition. I was even there when the Soul Patrol was created and fans were tossing around names (The Silver Foxes was one of the choices. “Soul Patrol” was heads above the rest, believe me! LOL) . Wow, I need to get a life, no? I thought all of the other contestants were OK, except for maybe Elliott who I thought was really quite good. I loved that he was a totally undiscovered, raw talent. 🙂

  8. Ghost Hunters this wk was not a new series of hunts, but a top 20 of their scariest moments. Dunno about where you are but here, GH repeats the previous wk at 8pm right before the new show at 9pm.

  9. Well, katherine rubbed me the wrong way. It would’ve been mandisa, paris or elliott (WOW) for me. Chris was good but i really am not into this style.

can we still be friends? 😉

  10. Yes, I really liked Mandisa and Paris too. Paris nailed that Beyonce song which proved that she could be current (she’s a great jazzy singer, but she is also more versatile), and Mandisa is a powerhouse of a singer. Wow. Still, Elliott was amazing when he covered those Stevie Wonder tunes. I want to hear more of him. He and Taylor were definitely my favorites.
I just hope they (i.e. the Idol powers that be) don’t manipulate Taylor into changing his style. I really liked his original stuff and I hope he stays true to that and doesn’t put out an album full of icky ballads. Bo Bice’s original stuff (Sugar Money and Blue Suede Nickel), pre-Idol, was really good. It was the Southern Rock style people came to love about him. Yet have a listen at his stuff now. Sigh. Idol has a way of alienating fans once they’ve been hooked. It’s actually a good thing that Chris and Elliott didn’t win and consequently, will have less constricting contracts. Chris would have lost all of his cred. lol He’s not exactly my style–I thought he sounded like so many other people. I do listen to his genre of music, but I prefer stuff more along the lines of Sound Garden/Audio Slave (yes, I love Chris Cornell lol).
As for Katharine…a lot of people didn’t quite cozy up to her. Technically, she has a great voice. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that she belonged in the Mickey Mouse Club. She also came off (to me) as very Hollywood. Her Mom, Peisha, has a CD out and her Dad is a producer. It was almost like she was bred for the business, and what motivated her (again, imo) seemed to be a desire for fame and recognition instead of a true love of music. We’ll probably see her on stage or film a lot more than we’d hear her over the air waves. Apparently she’s in talks with Steven Spielberg at the moment.
