Does anyone, or has anyone had a baby that is so darn clingy, that even at the ripe old age of six months, screams bloody murder everytime you put her down to go to the bathroom, or cook, put her in the shopping cart, car seat, or whatever. And she will not go to anyone else, like her father? And insists that you carry her around in the sling while you cook or whatever and weighs 20 pounds? And never takes naps? And doesn’t let you put her down while you eat and insists on sticking her fingers in your food?
If this is you, were you institutionalized eventually?

Our firstborn, Teresa, was much like that. For most of her first year, she would scream her head off every time I — or anyone else except my beloved wife Jocelyn — would try to hold her.
And although several of our friends have made comments to the effect that we are “crazy” for having four kids under five, Jocelyn is not, nor ever has been, institutionalized.
Dani, you have my sympathy. That must be terribly hard. Can someone take her for a walk occasionally? So she doesn’t see you and you don’t hear her? A little bit of screaming might be worth hanging onto the last shreds of sanity…
Yeah, I was there once.
No, I just had another so the clingy one was FORCED to get over themselves. Heehee, just kidding. It is so frustrating, and a lot more work to have a clingy one, that’s for sure!
My one year old is now sticking her finger in her mouth and hiding behind me and looking away if anyone even LOOKS at her. If I’m not in the room, she’s friendly with people, but the minute I step in the room, she’s stuck to me like glue. I always say, “What, do you want to crawl back IN???” Because it seems like they are forcing themselves back inside me or something with how attatched they become! I always try to remind myself that the day will come when they don’t need me anymore and will RUN when I say, “come HERE!” and that gets me through. That… and earplugs.
I posted a comment to this yesterday. But it never showed up. I’m the nice guys, you two.
My oldest was like that.
Because I had nothing to compare him to, I thought ALL babies were like that.
I was not institutionalized (though, quite honestly, I would have welcomed it, and enjoyed the rest…).
Hang in there! 🙂
Yes, all my little ones were like that…until maybe age one, with a couple lapses. Have you tried a bouncy seat and Baby Einstein Mozart and Bach? Even adults stop and stare at that…
Tried everything. My babies have been like this but tend to taper off by this stage.
