\nTwo significant flaws are present in this view. First, sex is
\nqualitatively different from other activities. It is not like working
\nalongside someone on a project. It is not like enjoying a
\nbeer and a burger with someone. It is not like playing tennis.
\nSex is a total physical giving of ourselves to another human
\nbeing. It is humans\u2019 most vulnerable, private act.
\nSecond, sex is how life itself is created. There is no other
\nact in which we engage with another person that can create
\nlife. And this life reproduces the genes of the two people
\ninvolved. The two literally become one in the form of a third
\nperson. Sex is like no other human activity.
\nBy emphasizing sex as recreation\u2014something enjoyable
\nthat does not require any deeper commitment\u2014our culture
\nhas moved sex from the level of sacred act (which God
\nintended it to be) down to the level of tennis. Moreover,
\nby emphasizing mutual consent as a basis for legitimizing
\npremarital sex, our culture overlooks essential differences
\nbetween men and women, important asymmetries that bring
\nthis \u201cif it\u2019s consensual it\u2019s okay\u201d view sharply into question.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
