Derbyshire discusses teenage children rejecting sports, school, their parents&#8217; values, their parents &#8212; period.<br \/>\nDerbyshire points to the lure of a popular culture that glamorizes the bohemian life, in which it doesn&#8217;t seem to take much hard work or talent to be rich and famous.  (Just look at all those people who want to be the next <i>American Idol<\/i>.)<br \/>\nBut is the glamour of pop culture the root of the problem?  I have a cold today, and my head is swimming, so I&#8217;m not able to coherently suggest what else might be going on.  Kevin mentiones an earlier Derbyshire <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exceptionalmarriages.com\/weblog\/BlogDetail.asp?ID=5187\">column about fatherhood<\/a> (&#8220;my children bore me so I delegate some of the child-rearing duties&#8221;) that might provide a clue.<br \/>\n<i>can&#8217;t&#8230;.form&#8230;sentences!<\/i> I&#8217;ll be curious to see what you think.
