It is the middle of the night and I have insomnia because the baby was up. He is now sleeping soundly, but I who amd dead tired, am awake. Agh, motherhood! Kids, why have ’em?
-A week ago Fredegar had a check-up. He is 15 pounds and 23 inches. He is a real chubbalumps. Nice fat cheeks and thighs. Since he was born, he loves to sleep on my chest at night, but he is sort of taking up all the room on my torso now. Just two monhs ago I barely felt he was there.
-Polo, my 9 tear old boy, is giving me a hard time with his school work. He will do any chore I ask of him, shovel the walk, bring in firewood-anything physical. But when it comes down to sitting for a lesson, he needs to go to the bathroom, get water, check on the two year old. It is starting to become a problem. Pray I nip it in the bud properly.
-I have had mastitis for the past week and am on antibiotics. I am trying to choke down as much yogurt as possible to deter thrush. It has only gotten so better though and it looks like I will have to go in and see the doctor. I so don’t have time.
-I also have to go get a 2 hour glucose test done today because my ACG something like that test showed my glucose levels are still elevated. I asked the doctor if I am diabetic if pregnancy brought this on and he said I was probably becoming diabetic. Oh well, I guess I cannot live on chocolate chip bagels after all.

Will keep you in my prayers…
We’ll pray for you! Fatigue, mastitis, homeschooling, etc., we moms love our kids more than they can possibly realize!
Sending up many prayers for you.
To keep thrush at bay, I have a few suggestions:
Next time you’re in town, go to your local health store and buy grapefruit seed extract (NOT grape seed extract). Buy the tincture, not the pills. Once your antibiotics are done, put about 8 drops of the tincture in a glass of orange juice, twice a day, for like a week. It tastes gross, but is an amazing yeast killer. (But if you’re on any other meds, talk to your pharmacist and doctor. GSE reacts with lots of drugs.)
During your course of antibiotics, take probiotics. You can find them at the health store, too. Acidolphilis and bifidus are the best ones to take (that’s what’s in yogurt, but the pills are much stronger.) Buy the ones stored in the refrigerator. Take probiotics two hours after antibiotics.
I have had thrush 20 times in three years (with two differnet children.) Public health nurses call me the Thrush Queen. I can beat a normal case in three days, a bad one in a week.
alicia, are you around? any ideas?
Oh, and sending you blog hugs, too. Nothing worse than feeling unwell and having a wee one. Good luck with the mastitis.
For yeast, the best and most effective treatment out there is gentian violet. Dr. Jack Newman has directions on his breastfeeding webpage. For prevention, probiotics – I haven’t hear of the grapefruit seed extract but will look into it.
Hon – mastitis could be related to a depressed immune system, and that could be diabetes. Just how high was your hemoglobin A1c? Also, remember what I said about cinnamon? 1/4 tsp daily is all it takes – you could even put it into capsules. If you want, I can try to find you the research studies. It’s OK to use while breastfeeding. Your sugars should be lower than average while breastfeeding – even real type 1 diabetic women will have lower sugars while breastfeeding – so if you have elevated levels now you are on the path to the wrong side of glycemic control.
lifting you in prayer.
Can you manage with just one bagel? Welcome to the diabetes club! I’ve been three weeks in the free world since diagnosis and am getting the hang of “the diet” at last…. you’ll make it!

alicia — so funny you mention Dr. Newman, he’s the one who recommended the grapefruit seed extract to me. I met him here a few years ago on a speaking tour.
Cin,
Thanks for the thrush prevention advice. I have been taking the refruferated acidophilus and bifidus. I will look for the GSE.
Alicia,
I do not remember what my test results are. I took the two hour test yesterday and they said the results should be in Monday.
Karen marie,
Part of this doesn’t bother me in a small way because part of the key is being forced to live a healthy lifestyle, so the accountabilty part doesn’t bug me. Well, I will reevaluate when I get my test results. Ths diet is hard.
Ellyn, Anne, Smockmomma-prayers greatly appreciated.
