Mazel Tov to us! We welcomed a new addition yesterday:
I have bee eyeing one for years! I have burnt out two hand mixers trying to bake cookies. When we lived off-grid we resorted to a hand held egg beater. I have seen how the other half lives. I have felt their pain and it ain’t pretty!
This was like a huge amount of money for me to plunk down on such a luxury. I spent a lot of time researching how to do this most economically so I wouldn’t wake up at night crying for throwing money out the window. Normally I have no problem purchasing things refurbished, used, off ebay or whatever, but every review said buy a new one. I considered a Sunbeam, but everyone said they are pretty much useless. The amounts of food I have been preparing has become almost ridiculous, so I figured it was time I deserved one.
A lot of people claim to have KitchenAids that last like 20 years. I would have loved to have inherited one. I bet my grandmother has one in storage somewhere. If I asked her for it, she would claim she needs it and try to give me this 50-year old (literally) sandwich press thing she is always trying to give me :(“you can make not only grilled cheese, but grilled ham and cheese…”)
I have been eyeing the smaller ones and considered getting an Artisan in red to match my kitchen, but my husband convinced me that soon we will have not only 4 boys to feed, but four teenaged boys. As it is, the amount of food this family consumes has made a huge jump. A bunch of bananas? Gone in 18 hours? A jar of cookies? Gone in 8 hours. One meatloaf? Not enough-Dominic and Gecko eat 3/4 of it alone. So, God bless my husband, whatever helps me create mass quantities of food is a worthy investment in his logic.
So we bought the “Professional” 6 Quart
Yesterday, I read the booklet and went to work. I used it to make meatloaf and mashed potatoes for supper, and a pudding cake for dessert. Dinner took like 5 minutes with it. Rosey Posey had to yell at me from the living room “Mom, stop giggling!”
Congrats! I wish you many happy years together!!
I’ve had mine for 12 years (the smaller one) and it’s still going strong. I use it constantly. I must admit that I’ve been eyeing Bosch Kitchen Machines as of late, mostly because I want a new blender and a food processor….but I can’t fault my KitchenAid. It’s a workhorse!
Congratulations!!! Finally a baby that cooks for itself! You will love it. It’s not called “amazing mixer” in my house for nothing. But then again you have the professional version, so for you it must be the “totally awesome mixer” or something like that.
YAY! My three year old boy loves “making cookies” and I love my huge, honkin’ kitchen-aid that I got from my dad because it won’t fit under his cupboards! I’m sure someday he’ll ask for it then I’ll have to give it back but those things ROCK!
wait, I just looked at the end of your entry…MEATLOAF! What a great idea for supper tonight!!!!!
…right…
You are going to have fun. Ours was a wedding gift (10 and a half years ago), and has served us well (I did have to take it in for a major servicing after I blew the clutch on a quadruple batch of pizza dough made with professional high-gluten pizza flower – but unless you are crazy you will not run into these sorts of problems. I am crazy, ergo…).
Be sure to get yourself the meat grinder attachment (and the sausage stuffer). A whole new world will open up to you when you make your own sausage. It is easy, economical, and fun. I use mine to make leberwurst, to grind meat for chili and ragu, to make Italian sausage, breakfast sausage, etc. The fun never ceases.
it’s ABOUT TIME! I think there’s also a grain milling attachment!
Congratulations, you totally deserve this.
A whole section devoted to…a kitchen mixer. I’d have thought it was the PS3!
Congrats!!! That is one beautiful machine.
My KitchenAid was a gift to me for my 40th birthday. It has moved with us from Los Angeles, to Eugene OR, to Concord NH and now to Illinois. I love it. I have the meat grinder attachment and the grater/slicer/shredder one as well.
The grater is fantastic with a large family. I used to grate a few pounds of cheese every so often and keep it in the fridge in a ziplock.
Or think about grating carrots for slaw, slicing cukes for salad and all that jazz.
In season, I use the grinder to make cranberry relish.
