Baby Update

I have had a hectic past three days. Monday I had to for my third level 2 ultrasound. I cannot remember if Peony mentioned but there was some concern that the baby’s cerebral cortex was too large and the little guy might be hydrocephalic. They pretty much ruled that out, but wanted this last ultrasound just to be sure. Everything looks really, really good. There is new concern since I have gestational diabetes about the baby’s development and they want to see me again on October 11. But so far the baby is a healthy size (about 5 lbs. something and in the 59th percentile oif you trust these things). He doesn’t look top heavy, or malnourished and is starting to practice using his lungs. They gave me a picture of his face which is pretty clear. He looks so much like my Gorbulas, has cute chubby cheeks and lots of crazy hair like Gorbulas did. And he is still a boy.
My endocrinologist was concerned about my glucose numbers so he put me on insulin. I explained that I am trying really hard but am only able to keep my numbers below the 130 mark by sticking to an Atkins type diet. He said that he doesn’t think it is anything that I am doing wrong, but I need the extra help. So I learned how to give myself insulin injections which really are not that bad at all. The drawback is since I am on insulin, I will have to be monitored while in labor and will have to have my finger pricked ecah hour to check my blood sugar. Gee, sounds like fun.
My echocardiogram from last week came out normal. I am glad I do not have heart problems. But I was kind of hoping they would find something small wrong that they could fix so I do not have to feel so out of breath when I walk across the room and I can resume taking my daily walks. Oh well.
But all in all, all is well and now the waiting game begins. Now that I know more about my new crazy haired little boy, I cannot wait to meet him. 34 weeks down, 6 to go.

  1. and it might only be 4 weeks to go – 38 weeks might be a good time for him to show up.
insulin isn’t the end of the world, it is just a pain in the upper extremities.

  2. Alicia,
4 more weeks is actually more realisictic because I have never deleivered a baby later than 38 weeks.
