Ave Verum Corpus

Ave Verum Corpus natum
de Maria Virgine.
Vere passum immolatum
in cruce pro homine:
cuius latum perforatum
aqua fluxit et sanguine.
Esto nobis praegustatum
in mortis examine.
O Iesu dulcis!
O Iesu pie!
O Iesu Fili Mariae. Amen.
Hail, true Body, born of the Virgin Mary,
who has truly suffered, and was sacrificed on the cross for mankind,
whose side was pierced, whence flowed water and blood,
Be for us a foretaste of heaven, during our final trial,
O Jesu sweet, O Jesu merciful, O Jesu Son of Mary,
have mercy on me. Amen.

  1. Here is a link to a vocal performance of Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus. The words are beautiful, the music is beautiful, the Truth is beautiful and may it be a salve to our suffering Pope and our breaking hearts.

  2. It’s a beautiful piece of music. I was very happy when my son learned how to play it and added it to his Communion meditation repertoire.
