imho: all oscars are given for an actor or actress' body of work* -- regardless what the academy says -- which is why depp is a worthy candidate.
*anna paquin and marlee matlin being two more recent exceptions to that rule.

Yesss--gotta love Johnny Depp and his body of work!

I think depp was phenominal as Jack Sparrow. Totally deserves a nomination.

Dear Peony,

Oddly, I find myself in agreement. When I walked out of the movie I found myself really focusing on Depp and asking--"What was that all about?" When I watch it on DVD I'm amazed again and again at the subtleties and the sheer joie de acting that seems to come through. I think he most definitely deserved the recognition of a nomination. Now, whether or not he deserves the award or not--well I haven't seen everything else so I couldn't really say. I think it would be wonderful if Hollywood would lighten up a bit and give the nod to something that wasn't deadly serious and dull.

shalom,

Steven
