Congratulations on doing the right thing! Our family was involved in a similar case in Baltimore County, Maryland 13 years ago. It resulted in civil litigation which ended with the an Appeal to the Court of Appeals of Maryland affirming the lower court's decision not to allow a feeding tube to be removed from my nephew, a resident of Baltimore County, Maryland, who was in a semi-vegetative state for 11 years, at the request of his wife, a resident of Ocala, Florida, which would have resulted in his dying of starvation, and she ultimately would have been able to receive the proceeds of a trust established for his benefit as a result of an automotbile accident. After existing in this state for 20 years, my nephew passed away this past July of natural causes (a heart attack), obviously according to God's plan and not his wife's plan, who only visited him during the trial of this matter and never called the hospital or visited him for the 10 additional years he survived. We also believe that he recognized certain individuals (his sister and a priest who worked with him regularly) and exhibited signs of anger and sadness when he was told of certain events that had occurred (such as the death of his father). Even though this litigation carried over for several years, Justice (and God's Will) prevailed! Good Luck and God Bless You!
