if choosing the better part meant letting the dishes pile up in the sink . . . i'd be SUPER HOLY WOMAN! da-da-daaaaaaaaaaaa!
same here -- I'd have several basilicas named after me....
Remember that More Like Mary, Less Like Martha blog? I always wondered if I was the only Catholic mother who needs to be more like Martha, less like Mary, since I'm always hearing how hard it is for most mothers to find 10 minutes to be contemplative during the long day of obligations :) My problem is more like devoting 10 minutes of my sloth to prayerful contemplation...
And there is really no better time, or action, to pray to than a relatively menial, non-thought-provoking task--say, washing dishes, or sweeping, or folding clothes--if you can just get your heart right.
I can't always do it, but those times when I can, it is almost like saying the rosary--keeping one part of your head/hands busy so that you can concentrate on another. I pray better with my broom in my hand than I do sitting still. Ditto for folding clothes.
St. Martha is my "go-to" girl. I always have a candle with her picture on it on my kitchen window.
