Yesterday I brought home a huge armful of accumulated mail -- mostly ads, a few bills, the diocese newspaper, and exactly one piece of personal mail: a letter from Pansy. She says hello and that she and the family are doing well, but that it may be a while before she can get her modem repaired. So it's going to be All Peony All the Time for a while. I would be happy to pass on any messages -- just drop an email. And I'm sure she would appreciate prayers for her healthy pregnancy and for help with her family's material needs.
Pansy also says her Roma tomato plant is starting to set fruit. Mine have not even flowered -- and I started and planted mine first! Back, green-eyed monster!
Mine are just starting to show blossoms, but I planted late. Did you use a fertilizer with a high nitrogen content? That's a no-no.
I did not fertilize, so maybe that's part of my problem. I did amend the soil with compost, and I've recently started fertilizing with fish emulsion. We've had some cool nights, so that may have confused the tomatoes as well.
Say hi to Pansy for me. I hope she's having a good second trimester, if my math is accurate.
I'll have to give Pansy a call. BTW, my tomatoes had their first few flowers out Thursday when I walked the garden. Who knows if they survived the thunderstorm last night, though. But we got our hothouse tomatoes from the CSA Wednesday, so all's well with the world!

I'm growing zucchini this year. I failed miserably at the cilantro last year.
My three "Better-Beef Bad Boys" (or whatever the heck they're called) are blossoming and have set a whole lotta big, round green fruit; but my two "Roma", which actually sprouted from seed, have just opened their yellow blossoms. No little tomatoes yet.
