Something You Do Not Hear Everyday

| | Comments (7)

Fastolph came up to me while I was making buckwheat pancakes this morning. He was doing this strange little hobbit looking dance and asked "Mommy, does dancing make you merry?" I was like "huh?" People actually use the word "merry"? I had to ask him three times to repeat himself to be sure I heard him right.

"Yes Fastolph, dancing can make you merry."

That is SO cute!

I find that most of the things that make me merry these days are remarks from Boudreaux exactly like the one Falstoph made.

In fact, yesterday I hurt my back and said something under my breath about it. The next thing I know Boudreaux has his face pressed up against the small of my back. I asked him what he was doing, and he looked up at me with this huge grin and said "I kiss it make it feel better Daddy!".

Steve,
What a blessing it is to have little people in our lives to bring us such moments.

At times, little people are okay.

Anyone who knows this Fastolph character knows that he has an alter ego who thinks he's a real person.

Mine suddenly started calling me "Ma," also experimenting with "Mom" and "Mama" instead of the old standby, Mommy.

Davey: Hi Ma.
Mommy: Hi Dave.
Davey: What'syaname?
Mommy: My name is Mommy.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't know what "What'syaname?" means, since it's also used in contexts like, "It's baby Thomas! Hi baby Thomas! What'syaname?"

Personally, I also thought it was cute when he was frequently piping up out of nowhere with, "Eww, what's that smell?" (courtesy of Clifford) but also wondered during what incredibly inappropriate situations he might pull that out.

Boudreaux just started calling me "Dad" the other week; I was kind of sad about it, as I really am not ready to be called anything but daddy for a while. When you've got a girl in the family, you stand a very good chance of being called daddy the rest of your life, but not with a house full of boys.

My husband says he can't even remember ever calling his mother Mommy, but my sister (almost 40) and I (26) still use "Mommy" as our mother's proper name when discussing her. I mostly call her Ma when speaking to her though, and my sister uses Mom.
