My problem with Dr. Ray is that he is so busy reacting to the world that he doesn't ever seem to qualify any of his statements.

Personally, I have seen a lot of over-sheltered kids hit college and go a little nuts with freedom.

The secret is to keep giving more freedom and more responsibility in keeping with your kids maturity - not more than they are ready for (Dr. Ray is right to say that the opposite of innocence is not maturity), but as much as theya re ready for. If you are still treating your 16 year old like a 10 year old, you're in for trouble.

On the other hand, you don't want to treat a 10 year old like a 16 year old either.
