I Must Not Be Doing Something Right

There is yet another horrific child abuse story in the local paper today. Skip it if you like, it's depressing, but at least the child in this story is alive and being cared for now. I am sure any mother can relate to the dread when you read these accounts that the child is the same age as one of your children. The story then becomes more real because you know what a child that age feels. These babies are mostly baffled because they have no concept of why this happening to them.

I am often left with a sense of I could have done something, which of course is not ridiculous. If I could have, I would have.

There is one part of this sad story that seems to be a common thread in so many of these sad stories:

Police said all three children were abused, but Munoz administered the most violent punishment to Xctasy because she wasn't his child and because he was angry that Hernandez had recently been with another man.

that is one of the worst things i've heard of (and like everyone i've heard of too many horrendous things.) i keep checking for updates, but it doesn't seem to have been picked up nationally. i keep thinking it's nyc because it's too close to what i saw in my "hometown paper" a whole lot growing up.

i'm thinking that's the kind of thing that probably both motivates people to go into criminal justice and social services and which seeing repeatedly probably ends up burning a lot of people out after they've devoted themselves to those jobs.

Just today my husband remarked that people in these jobs do not seem very nice although they choose job that one would think to help people, and I said the same thing:they must get burnt out so very quickly.

Its seems a common thread that most of the abusers are not the child's real father, rather the "uncle", mummy's boyfriend. I often think such abuse is reflective of irregular lifestyles and casual unions where the natural parents are not together and the two "adults" are on drugs or drunkards. I often wonder why they let babies go home with a drug addicts. If you cannot look after yourself, you are incapable of caring for a child

Ack!!!
