Legal Advice

My husband would like to view the probated wills of his grandparents who lived in Puerto Rico. He has reason to believe he was named in them as his grandparents took care of him when he was small. His father who is the executor of the wills will not show them to him. We understand they are public record, but do not know how to obtain them as we are in New York State, and these affairs were settled in Puerto Rico. If anyone can offer some advice, please, I am listening.

I suspect that the Commonwealth of PR has a governmental website. If you can find it, look for the listings of the judicial system, which will likely break down the Commonwealth courts by district/area, and have contact information. That should lead you to the clerk of the relevant court, who can tell you how to request a copy of the record.

Failing that, here's a list of family law attorneys in PR that might be able to help, or at least point you in the direction you need to go.

Thank you so much Dale! That info was most helpful!
