Bleg

How can it be October already?! (well, almost)

Busy around here. Hambet has not been expelled from kindergarten yet. I've added two more jobs to my resume: lunchroom monitor and Tooth Fairy.

Meanwhile, my dear husband has been looking at the hours in which Hambet's in school and clearing his throat. I'll be talking to a couple of temp agencies next week, but under the principle of You Never Know Unless You Ask, I thought I'd put out a bleg:

I'm looking for part-time work in Northern Virginia (western Fairfax County.) 10-16 hours a week, daytime, with flexibility for school pick-up and occasional lunch-lady chores. Work-from-home option would be fabulous.

Skills: Clear speaking voice and professional demeanor. Computer skills (Word, Access, Excel, some PowerPoint, blogging software *ahem*.) Medical terminology.

Thanks!

I have several friends who are currently in this same position -- looking for something very part-time and extremely flexible. I have occasionally checked through Craigslist (http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/)-- I can't verify anything, but they do always seem to have a lot of web/ Internet type jobs that are either temporary or part-time.

Another friend who works full time, suggested that you interview for full time jobs and see if they would be interested in adding some flexibility to the hours -- her point was that in some job sectors employers are so desperate for people, that they will bend over backwards to accomodate a potentially valuable employee.

Good luck, neighbor! (I'm in Vienna)

I just went through this myself. I was looking at home stuff due to the homeschooling and DH working long hours.
Two suggestions: If you are a certified teacher, get in contact with progressivelearning.com about becoming a supplemental instructor via email. I just got hired for this one and an waiting for training to start. I like the email part because I don't have to worry about the kids being noisy. I am so excited.
The other two suggestions to look at are alpineaccess.com and teletech.com. They have at home stuff that seems reputable. Only, you are not in Colorado, so it may not work. Also, look at WAHM.com. sometimes they have stuff. Also, second craigslist, that is where I found my new job.

In case you're still looking here--I went to college at Christendom in Front Royal. My sister did too and she later settled in Arlington and still interacts with some fringe part of the Christendom community. I know there was a sort of network for jobs via a Christendom person--I want to say it was Connie Marshner, the wife of one of the professors. The college might have some good leads. I could see them helping out even if they don't have a direct connection. I can also check with my sister to see if she has any ideas. I know a number of her friends are now married and moms and some might do part-time stuff (and I can't imagine they're all working for Seton). My sister's in the middle of changing jobs right now so I'm not sure how soon I'll hear from her, though, but I'll still ask. I also agree with Jordan's suggestion of Craigslist.

Update: My sister's answer was see if Seton has anything. I remember when we were in college in the mid-'90s, some of my friends marked papers for Seton--it sounds as if some moms do that at home for them now, too.
