Back to Reality

Ok, so now that Flavor of Love has ended, the question begs to be asked:"is this for real?" I mean seriously, was New York really that into Flavor Flav that she came back a second time for all that drama and abuse? Or are these actresses? I don't want to diss Flavor, but these girls are a good ten years younger than I am, which makes them like 20 something years younger than Flav. I am missing the romantic attraction. And any girls that showed character, he booted off for that very sake. Bootz would not sleep with him prior to marriage, so he kicked her off. Tiger didn't like the idea of kissing him after he kissed 5 other girls, and he wasn't cool with that. New York started to get upset at the idea of his bed-hopping, so she was crazy and possesive (she did seem crazy though, but to me her reaction as far as that was concerned was quite normal). So am I the only who thinks this show is staged? Or am I just flabbergasted at how backwards our culture has become?

Project Runway has ended making way for Season 2 of Top Chef. What I like about these shows is seeing people with extraordinary talent get a challenge, and showing off what they can do. What I hate about these shows is the individual interviews where they just cut each other up. It is uncomfortable and not sportsman like. It makes me not care about the people and their abilities. Jeffrey had lots of talent, but he was so mean and nasty, no one cared if he won.

VH-1 has a new show: The Celebrity Paranormal Project. Again, are these shows staged? What is it exactly that constitutes "reality" TV anyway? In the first episode, the first bunch of celebrities had to explore a sanitorium (once surveyed by the Ghost Hunters) for paranormal activity. They were there for one night, and each team had some kind of major event happen to them like balls mysteriously rolling back to them, shadow people, voices, foot steps. I don't believe it. People live in haunted houses all their lives, and after 20 years have as many events as these people experienced in one evening. Ghost Hunters was there all night and got like one shadow person on tape for a second or something.

I also didn't like that instead of going into a "haunted place" to simply observe what happens, they attempted to "channel" spirits.

Which of course brings me to my Ghost Hunters. I think one of the reasons why I like this show is I like Grant and Jason. Despite their nighttime occupation, they seem so normal. They're plumbers. They have families; Jason has five kids, Grant has three. They're motivation is to help people who are afraid.

There was an episode last season where the house was not haunted, but they figured out that the homeowner had some electrical problems, chemicals for home restoration near his heating ducts, and mold in the basement. All thesethings could lead to a feeling of foreboding. So despite not finding anything "weird", they were able to help.

I would love to send them to my grandmother's house, but she would never let them in. Besides, all the creepy stuff happens when I am there alone anyway.

One of their really old episodes had them investigate a house that reported a lot of paranormal activity. When they stepped in the door, the first thing that they saw was that the owners were into New Age stuff and had pentagrams all over the place. Their demonologist, who I wouldn't be surprised if they said he was once a priest, ordered them to get rid of all that stuff right away since it does nothing but invite things into the house.

We watch all of the same shows.

I was mad at Grant and Jason for not being forward-thinking enough to install extra cams during one of their last episodes when they were in Arizona and saw that apparition.

As far as reality is concerned, it's not all that real after all of the editing that goes on, but I admit to being drawn to the drama. It's like a train wreck sometimes and you just can't help but to watch. New York got what she wanted--her own show! :)

I liked Jefferey's couture gown and thought his final collection was fresh and new. I was disappointed by Michael's collection and I really wanted him to win. Sigh.

Okay, I think I caught the Celebrity Paranormal episode you referenced...was that the episode with the exercise guru guy and Rachel Hunter? If so, I thought the same thing you did. They are totally being messed with. And the whole angle of the camera plus the scary soundtrack playing over it just made me way too nervous. I used to watch a show just like that one, but without the celebrities, and the stuff they'd experience was always completely off the wall.

Sigh. And then of course I had to sit and watch yet another episode of Parental Control. I *do not* want to have to deal with psycho girl/boy friends once my kids are older. I'm hoping that I'm raising them to know better! That show's like the Fear Factor for parents.

Oh, and it would be cool if you could convince your Grandma to let GH investigate.

Patty,

That was the second episode. The first one was with Toccara, Gary Busey, Hal Sparks...

The exercise guy was Tony Little...hah ha , he's funny.

I cannot watch "Prental Control". I don't care if their child has a nasty boy/girlfriend. The parents' behaviour is horrible. It is controlling and manipulative.

I agree on Parental Control. What a trainwreck of a show that is. The parents *are* bizarro. I can't imagine sitting by and being so unaffected by my child's very obvious in-your-face sexual activity. Ack! And the boyfriends and girlfriends for the most part are just awful.

I missed the Gary Busey episode (he's another bizarre one lol), but the 2nd episode must have closely mirrored the first as they too were required to channel the spirits.

I sure miss my weekly dose of Flav. I've been watching the reruns - especially the reunion show. I don't know why I find it so fascinating. If I wanted to watch cat fights I could just sit back and stir things up among my four daughters. And Flav certainly has his shortcomings, as you mentioned. But it makes for fascinating TV - especially with New York. (Although I was partial to BuckWild, too.) Is it true that New York is getting her own show? She is annoying as h**l, but fun to watch.
