fashion consultation needed

| | Comments (7)

I need some casual shoes this summer. They need to be "real" shoes -- arch support, plenty of padding, comfortable for a day of walking -- that go with summery clothes.

Usually I'd for go for the Keds but apparently that is a fashion faux pas. So: advice needed.

SAS and Birkenstock have some choices that you might like.

Keds sneakers are a fashion faux pas? Hmm...

Well, loafers (the driving-shoes type with the rubber soles) are pretty comfortable and stylish as well. And I saw a really fun pair of sandals over at Manolo's Shoe Blog but they don't meet the padding requirement. If you'd like to visit the blog, here is the link:

Even if you don't find anything suitable, you may end up entertained =)

Sunny

Sunny, I'm alluding to the ridicule heaped on those who are alleged to favor the denim-jumper-and-white-Keds combo. I personally like them (and may end up with a pair in black), but then I am severely fashion-impaired. (For the record, I do not own a denim jumper.)

I love the reading of the Manolo, but the shoes he favors do not appeal to the womens like me who are stout and require the shoes designed by the structural engineers (and who do not love the shoes and would rather spend their money on the books and the electronic gadgets.)

First, go to a better department store with a large selection. If you at all can, get to a Nordstrom's, at least just to see what's out there. Now, I do think that you get what you pay for in shoes, and cheapie, disposable shoes end up being, well, disposable. Very often they don't give you support you need, plus they just don't look as good.

(Besides the classic driving loafers, there are some fabulous, fun sporty shoes that, although are technically sneakers, look way more polished and funky.)

If everything at the good department store is out of your budget, see if you can find reasonable facsimiles at a less-expensive store or even on-line. But then you will have seen and maybe even tried on a few styles that you now know fits well and looks good.

Keds? Just say no.

Check out: www.sierratradingpost.com

Their shoes are 50% of and more - they have good quality german shoes, Ecco, and other brands. Nice clogs and sandals. They look pretty and are comfy.

Also check out: www. marylandsquare.com for shoes

I have NO connection with either place.

Hmm. Don't know when I'll be able to make it to Nordstrom's, but I'll be sure to check out the websites.

So is there a single style of shoe that will look presentable with both khaki-type pants and capris?

Can't get to Nordstrom? Then let Nordstrom come to you.

And then Zappos can keep you busy for hours. Here:
