The accident

| | Comments (11)

My husband was driving to work at around 5 am Tuesday morning when he started to lose control. The road was covered with ice that started to melt into a layer of slush covering the ice. The road turns rather hilly and winding where he started to lose control. He was going about 30 mph and was attempting to regain control of the mini-van where the road dropped into a hill and turned. But instead of the van turning it went straight through a barbed wire fence and started to roll sideways down a hill that made a huge drop into a ravine. Luckily the van was stopped at the edge of the hill by a tree. My husband was wearing his seat belt and was able to turn off the car, crawl out and call 911 on his cell phone.

When the police arrived, his first reaction was "where is the car?" my husband directed him to shine his light down the hill. The cop was shocked he walked away. He said that someone had an accident in the same manner in the same spot this summer, but they were thrown 40 feet from the car and are now a parapalegic. My husband suffered a mild concussion and mild whiplash, and some body aches, but seems to be ok, Deo Gratias.

Now we are still waiting to hear from the insurance and am hoping things go well because this is the last thing we need financially right now.

Thank you for your prayers.

1. PRAY FOR TERRI -- her murder recommences today.

2. Pray for Pansy.

3. Finish decorating Hambet's birthday cake.

4. Purchase balloons and streamers.

My life is so trivial sometimes I just disgust myself.

just got an IM from Pansy -- her husband has been in a car accident. She says he's okay but sounds really shaken up.

More news when we have it. Even in the best case scenario it sounds like the family car is totalled, which is not going to be good news for Pansy and her family.

Prayer Request

Received this morning from a friend:

...on a more serious note, please pray for a little boy named O.,
2 1/2 years old. ...He fell yesterday and needed
stiches- somewhere during the ER visit he went into shock, his heart
stopped, and he was revived, but rushed to a second hospital, and then air
lifted by chopper to the UPenn hospital in Philly. I have few details,
except that he is fighting for his life.... As of 5pm yesterday they were unsure of his chances of survival....

Thanks,
Peony

Lileks to "Supermoms": Chill.

Listened to the Prager show – a conversation on self-esteem, with a few calls from women who felt that they lacked self-esteem because they were stay-at-home moms instead of hard-charging superwomen. Well, they didn’t lack self-esteem so much as they inferred from some great floating amorphous thing called SOCIETY that should lack self-esteem, and they absorbed this through the various means – TV, movies, their skin, etc.

Did you see the latest Supermom pity-party on the cover of this week's Newsweek? I did, and I didn't bother to pick it up. I knew what it would say. I really have a hard time relating to women like Anna Quindlen and her rich girlfriends who feel like they should have it all and just feel guilty, guilty, guilty when they don't -- and who think everyone else feels just as guilty as they do!

I just don't understand how anyone could do this. This world...God won't let us continue to treat our little ones like this much longer.

Winter Walk

I am supposed to go for a 30 minute walk each day if possible. So on Sunday afternoon hubby and I escaped with the baby and the camera and took a walk down the driveway.

Nice article from my diocesan newspaper.

The Latin back and forth between Peony and Bob in the comments box below is starting to resemble Doc Holliday and Johnny Ringo in Tombstone (one of my all time favorite movies, by the way). Not the part where they are on the verge of a gun fight, but the back and forth and me listening thinking "what did they say?"

There are a couple of more links to the conversation here and here. Peony found these when I mentioned what the conversation reminded me of. Are we geekier for looking for these or are the people who put this on the internet geekier?
